November is National Adoption Awareness Month

For the last 35 years out of a 40-year law career I have had the privilege of working with families who, like mine, created their families through adoption.

My daughter, Attorney Anne-Marie Hall Palmieri, has worked with me in my adoption practice for the last five years.

We are still creating those families! We are looking for families to adopt both newborn and older children.

But we will be making some changes soon. Attorney Hall Palmieri will become responsible for all adoptions beginning January 1, 2021. I will retire on December 31, 2020.

My daughter and I admire the strength, love, and determination of birth parents who make a choice -- even if it does not feel like much of a choice -- to make an adoption plan for their child. We are available to help birth parents do this. In addition, there are organizations that provide counseling and emotional support for birth parents.

Adoption can be expensive for adopting parents, but there are organizations that help with grants.

In this month of Adoption Awareness consider a gift to the Family Formation Charitable Trust. The Academy of Adoption and Assisted Reproduction Attorneys (AAAA) formed this trust with the idea that Fellows (I have been a Fellow since 1993) will "give back" to those who need it.

Attorney Palmieri can assist in directing our clients to other resources for birth parents and adopting parents.

Margaret Hall represents adoptive parents and birth parents in domestic adoptions. The Adoption Tax Credit can help with expenses.
